Engage Corvallis provides tours and other educational opportunities that connect people with local identity. We reveal historical narratives, traditions, values, and the forces that have shaped our community.
We believe knowing the stories of a place can lead to a sense of belonging and connection. Once people can see themselves as part of a greater whole, we believe a feeling of responsibility arises to contribute to the well-being of that whole – the community of Corvallis!
Vision
Engage Corvallis envisions a world where a typical Corvallis resident moves through the community enveloped in a sense of connection and belonging. Each origin story of streets, buildings, ecosystems is a layer of knowledge that can deepen connection to place, the same way the dings, dents, and showpieces of a house make a home into a character imbued with meaning for its residents.
By fostering a sense of belonging through local knowledge, we hope to inspire people to invest in the community, to live as if they are staying. The goal is to grow a critical mass of informed, engaged residents who actively contribute to solving local challenges. As R.W. Kimmerer says, “Good communities don’t make themselves!”
